Recently was able to put to use a fantastic B-day present Jenny had picked out for me last October: an REI photography class + outdoor field trip. We trained under a guide named Matt Heid - a professional photographer for some top shelf nature magazines. For our field trip we headed to Appleton Farms - the second oldest continuously running farm in the country. Despite the 25 degree high, our class had a fantastic time - and learned a great deal about how to spot the 'perfect' shot, including the need for 1)proper anchor, 2)elements of dimensionality and depth, 3) proper lighting, and 4)the use of lines - including the rule of 3rds.

So glad the blogging peer pressure hit the McFadden household. We can't wait to get Frances updates!
Oh, and a 25 degree high sounds pretty nice about now. I don't think it's been above 15 in Iowa City for two weeks. "Warm" and "cold" are such relative terms, we're learning!
