Thailand: San Diego

Our first stop on our Thailand trip was a 2-night stay with the Murrys in LA/San Diego.  Oh, it felt so good to see them. I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since they left Boston.

We were picked up at LAX by Jeff and Sarah:

Our Chauffer:

We drove to San Diego, and hit the beach park in La Jolla near Jeff's work:

(yes, Chris and Jeff went swimming in the chilly water!)
Little Kate is a big 2-year-old now:

And Hannah is as active as ever:

Ret, set,

Go!

Dinner in La Jolla (don't they look like they're on a date? First of many? Let's keep our fingers crossed!)

Sunset on the beach

We went to Jeff's office at the SALK institute. The building at SALK was designed by a famous architect, Louis I. Kahn. There was also an installation by Dale Chihuly on the grounds.

Jeff tossing Kate:

Chris tossing Frankie, Jeff tossing Hannah:

The next morning we were off to the San Diego Zoo. What a great zoo! We were able to get in free with some extra passes Sarah had scrounged up. What a great opportunity!

And they're off!

Chewbacca?

Like a "munchie" (monkey, Dex-style)

Cheese! (that sass is free of charge, by the way)

These otters:

And this monkey:

Shared a habitat. They had a great time playing together!

We got to see the polar bears go for a swim: what a treat!

It was when Frankie told me she was too bored to see this elephant anymore that we were done.

But we had a little more life in us when we discovered we could pay a little money and feed the giraffes:

Dex was terrified and thrilled all at the same time:

A bird of paradise flower:

That night was Halloween:

A lion, A flower, Wonder Girl, and a princess sup together:

Ready to hit the town

Frankie and Hannah definitely knew the drill this year

The Stash (most of which we left in Cali for Jeff!)

The hardest part of that visit was that it opened the wounds of having to say goodbye afresh.  We miss you dearly, sweet friends.

You guys packed so much in to two days - wonderful!

I like the kid-tossing photos best.

what a wonderful adventure to share as a family.
the architect in me is so jealous of your friend that gets to work at the salk institute everyday.
- the photos with the kids in the air and the sea in the distance are great!
looking forward to the next installment...
