This Car Climbed Mt. Washington

We climbed Mt. Washington yesterday - in our car. And by that I mean rental van. Sadly, we did not have Betty, our 17-year-old volvo 240 station wagon with us, otherwise we would proudly slap that bumper sticker they gave us after we paid the fee to drive up the road "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" on her rear.

In case you didn't notice from the last post, it's way colder here than we anticipated. Yesterday when we got to the base of Mt. Washington, we were told we could only climb half way, that the road to the top was closed due to snow and ice. This isn't unuasl, but it was a really clear day (the mountain wasn't covered in clouds like it often is) and so we were disappointed not to get to the top. By the time we made it to the halfway point though, they opened the rest of the road, so we got to go to the top. Where it was 20 degrees with winds of 50 mph.

Halfway up!

All the way up!

The funny little cog-train that also goes to the top:

We stopped for lunch at the snack bar at the top of the mountain. It was odd to have driven up in a car, and to be surrounded by people who had hiked up. Chris has hiked to the summit several times, and he always talked about how weird it is to hike up this mountain and have all this civilization, creature comforts, and people who had driven to the top there with him.

Here we are at the park in North Conway before we drove up Mt. Washington.

Marshmallow boy

We've had lots of fires in the fireplace at the cottage we're renting, and therefore lots of s'mores.

remind anyone of a certain picture of Chris? Anyone (Jeff) have this picture I can post for everyone else's benefit?

Click through to this video on how Frankie and Her Pawpaw cook a marshmallow for Nonnie:

Looks like you "appreciated your drive" up to the top. What a beautiful place! Too bad we'll probably never make it up there; at least not during this time in New England. :(

Again, loving being on vacation vicariously through you. Thanks for posting all the fun pictures!

Oh. my. word. Those pictures were great from the beginning (love Maisy Dog on the playground equipment), but the marshmallow-faced Frankie put it over the top. Somebody find that picture of Chris. And soon.

Seriously laughing over here. Are you not the most hilarious family ever, or what? :) Miss you all -- even Maisy dog!

Praying for Chris' presentation today! Let us know how it goes. :)
